A Reflection from Fr. Brian:
(continued from May 28th)
As we headed towards our neighbor’s property, we saw something burning in the yard. It was a hose that led up to the house where the propane tank was. We quickly ran to smother the hose with dirt so it wouldn’t blow up the propane tank. Just then there was an explosion! We looked at one another and the caretaker said, “Probably just a water tank.” Sure enough, a water tank had exploded near the back of the property.
We spent the rest of the day shoveling dirt onto hotspots of flame spread around our property. We could see the back end of the fire as it raced up the valley with flames shooting 100’s of feet into the air.
That night, I could smell and taste the soot of ash in my throat while I tried to get some sleep.
It was truly a first-hand experience of the horror that is a California wildfire!
Blessings, pono and pule!
