A Personal Reflection from Fr. Brian:
Yesterday we celebrated the feast of the Holy Trinity. When I was young in Catholic grade school, the nuns tried to explain to us kids the mystery of the Trinity. I can’t remember exactly what they said, but there was something about creation, salvation and sanctification. I never quite understood how you could have three persons in one person. Was God kind of 3-way schizophrenic? Well, I did like the mystery part. Kids love mystery you know!
But, it wasn’t until high school that I discovered that there were things named after the Holy Trinity, especially places. There was the Trinity River in Texas, Trinity College, Trinity University. It seemed that there was something important about this Trinity.
I believe that God is a mystery that embraces us in the arms of love, no matter how bad we are. And, that the relationship of the Creator to us, the created, is one of love. Jn 3:16 says “For God so loved the world . . . ” I think we all know the rest of the words!
Eternal life is itself a mystery, like the Trinity. And it is the goal of every human being. Let us pray for a greater realization of eternal life in our world, especially where there is fear and doubt. It brings peace and love! In Tongan, “melino mo ‘ofa”!
Blessings, pono and pule!
