The ministry serves to reach out to those who have had a loss (of good health, job, home, death, culture, etc.) with emotional support; to share knowledge of the normal emotions of grief. A support group is provided, if needed, as are reading materials on how to cope with grief in a healthy way. Letters are sent to anyone in the Molokai Community who are ill or have experienced a death in their family, which shares that we care and are praying for them. The letter is signed by the priest on behalf of the St. Damien Catholic Parish Community.
Social Ministry Team
Assists the homebound, feeding the less fortunate, school and community projects, helping to address good communication that keeps the whole parish community connected; creating formation opportunities to ensure that social ministry work remains rooted in Scripture and Catholic Social Teaching.
In conjunction with the social teaching of the Church, our Social Justice ministry reflects on Church documents to assist families with situation of injustice that has been done; being aware of the real need in today’s society, to help others who cannot speak out for themselves and to give them the support and encouragement needed to bring dignity and justice to their lives.
