Letter dated May 27, 1873 from Fr. Damien at Kalawao to his Superior:
I hope that in eight days I can go back to running after the lost sheep of Molokai.
On Friday, I went to Pelekunu where I found a small knot of good Christians of whom many had not seen a priest in more than ten years. I baptized 10 here, I did it on the 15th, the Feast of the Ascension, and 5 were in danger of death. In all, 30!
