Peace to all as we enter the first week of Advent in anticipation of things to come!

“A voice of one crying out in the desert”
“He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit”

These two lines stood out for me from next Sunday’s Gospel. They are words of need, hope and faith in God. Are we crying out in the desert for a baptism of the Holy Spirit? Or are we satisfied with just a cleansing? Do we need and want to be filled with the Holy Spirit of God? A good question to each one of us.

The season of Advent is one of preparing for the incarnation of God into the human realm. It takes us to a whole other level, a level of high hopes and dreams. And, at this time in the world, isn’t this just we need? I believe it is!

This week we celebrate three saints who exemplified living in the Holy Spirit: St. Andrew, Apostle and martyr; St. Francis Xavier, missionary priest; and St. John Damascene, priest and Doctor of the Church.

Scriptures:

“Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.” (Mark 1)

Blessings, pono and pule!
