Worship/Liturgy Ministry
Worship is central to the Catholic Church. Numerous ministry activities are involved which contribute to the celebration of the Eucharist, devotions and other liturgies at the churches of St. Damien Catholic Parish. Ministry in these areas is actually a Calling.
Areas of Worship/Liturgy are: Liturgy, Sacristans, Eucharistic Minister, Communion to the homebound, lectors, Liturgical music, hospitality, petitioners, altar servers, sound system, and special liturgies of weddings and funerals. For more information call: ph: 808-553-5220
Liturgy Committee:
Prepares the environment for Eucharistic celebrations and oversee the logistics of these celebrations.
Communion to Homebound:
Takes Communion and the Word of God to parishioners who cannot come to Mass.
Lectors
Lectors proclaim the word of the Lord at weekend masses and special liturgical events.
Ministers of Hospitality:
Ministers of hospitality are the greeters/ushers who are visible at every Mass and the special occasions of the Church to offer a warm welcome to all as they arrive to worship. Before Mass, help seat arriving persons, especially visitors and those in need of assistance. Assist in collection, pass out bulletins and provide miscellaneous assistance, as needed during mass.
Petitioners:
With “Prayers of the Faithful” portion of the celebration of mass, prepares and/or read intentions of the Church, world, nation, state and local community during Mass.
Worship Space Environment
Décor/Flowers for Church: Plan and decorate each of the three churches, inside & out, in ways that are both liturgically correct and conducive to our faith community’s spiritual growth.
Sound at St. Damien Church:
Set-up sound system before Masses and other special functions at St. Damien of Molokai Church, be available to provide assistance with sound, as needed.
Sacristans:
The Sacristans prepare the altar for Mass and other liturgical celebrations. At the end of the Liturgy, the Sacristans return all liturgical books and vessels to the Sacristy.
Eucharistic Ministers:
Assists in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ during Mass.
Liturgical Music:
Cantor/Song Leader
The Cantor/Song Leader’s main role is to sing the Responsorial Psalm and lead the congregation in music during the Eucharistic celebration and to ensure the assembly participates in singing.
Singers/choir/instruments: Provides music for the Eucharistic celebration with joyful noise
Weddings:
For the purpose of this ministry, must be able to work with the couple to determine dates for wedding, paying particular attention to the clergy schedule, plan the Wedding celebration, setting up the church, cleaning and restoring the Church area. For the couple, marriage preparation starts with meeting with the priest or deacon, attending an Engaged Encounter weekend, and completing the Focus instrument administered by a couple or the priest.
Special Liturgies:
Funerals
For the purpose of this ministry, must be able to work with the family of the deceased to determine dates for services, planning the Liturgy services, setting up the church for the service, paying particular attention to the clergy schedule, cleaning and restoring the Church area at the conclusion of the service.
Weddings
For the purpose of this ministry, must be able to work with the couple to determine dates for wedding, paying particular attention to the clergy schedule, plan the Wedding celebration, setting up the church, cleaning and restoring the Church area.
